Limited colour vision (Colour blindness, Colour vision deficiency)

Limited colour vision is more generally known as colour blindness to the general public, and as colour vision deficiency to the scientific community. People with limited colour vision find it difficult to identify and distinguish between certain colours.

  • Trichromat: A person with 3 cones, with sensitivities given in the Figure under the definition of Cones. Trichromats have full colour vision.

  • Anomalous Trichromat: A person with 3 types of cones, however the sensitivity for one type of cone is shifted compared to the cone sensitivities for Trichromats with full colour vision.

  • Dichromat: A person with only 2 types of cones.
