Colour wheel (hue circle)

A two-dimensional representation of colours, usually depicting the most vivid colours of each hue family. The order of colours around a colour wheel is the order of colours seen in the spectrum, plus non-spectral hues to complete the circuit. Note that a full range of colours is represented in a colour model rather than colour wheel.

Examples of hue circles:

A) Painted hue circle using 3 paint components. B) Painted hue circle using 9 paint components. C) Hue circle from the NCS colour system. D) The New Munsell Student Color Set, 2nd edn.

E) Four hue circles, structured around - (1) the Munsell principal and intermediate hues; (2) the unique hues; (3) the traditional primary and secondary hues; and (4) the additive primary and secondary hues.
