Map colour characters into an expanded hue plane

  • Colour Concepts: Recognize how a hue plane visualizes many variations for a specific hue, into an expanded hue family.

Materials:

  • Vivid, pale muted and dark tiles from the green hue family

  • Green hue plane from Kolormondo 3-D Colour Model (**link to Materials)

  • CLP Handout - CHROMO Hue Planes Model

Instructions:

Figure 1: Arrangement of coloured tiles in a hue plane.

  • Each hue family, with its diamond-arrangement of vivid, muted, pale and dark tiles, can be considered a hue plane (See Figure 1).

  • It is possible to extend each hue family into many more coloured tiles, each made of distinguishing steps to the left and right for more or less vivid tiles , and up and down, for paler or darker tiles. Many 3-dimensional models of colour are organized in this way, for example the Kolormondo model (See Figure 2).

  • Choose the green hue family from the Kolormondo model, and match the vivid, muted, pale and dark tiles.
